OMNIPOLLO LEON

Interestingly fulsome Belgian pale ale brings bulging white-wined champagne yeast to herbaceous white-peppered citrus luster. Floral lemon zest brightens orange-peeled ruby red grapefruit, yellow grape and pineapple fruiting above sugary crystal-malted baguette bottom. Pungent barnyard-wafted Belgian yeast funk picks up salty mineral-grained earthiness and light chamomile tea nuance. Sour lemon-candied finish latently puckers crisp amber-hazed medium body.

BRUTON STONER

Wayward Italian-made Belgian strong pale ale places citric-spiced mineral graining atop wood-dried grassy hops. Pungent hemp-oiled rye toasting picks up sesame-seeded wheat germ, sorghum and whey minerality as well as light sourdough breading above black-peppered coriander-spiced lemon zest. Hybridized medium-body better defined as nuanced Anglo-American pale ale.

(STILLWATER) TABLE BEER

Reliable gypsy-brewed Belgian pale ale integrates Saison-like sour fruiting with airborne barnyard minerality, floral-dried potpourri and residual herbage. Initial lemon-soured green apple, apricot and pineapple fruiting sidles white-peppered lemongrass, peppercorn, basil, thyme and sage as well as horse-blanketed hay, alfalfa and wheatgrass earthiness. Marble rye-breaded malting underscores sessionable ‘table beer.’

KANE MALUS

On tap at Shepherd & Knucklehead, musky ruby-browned Belgian strong dark ale (brewed with local cider and spices) brings champagne yeast wining to fluctuant prune-caked sour fig, dehydrated plum, black cherry and candied apple illusions. Spiced cider reluctantly penetrates burnt-sugared caramel malting to sweet cinnamon apple finish. Leveraged red apple juicing disguises hefty 9.7% alcohol volume well.

OMMEGANG DUVEL RUSTICA

On tap at Shepherd & Knucklehead, strong Belgian-styled golden ale emits raw-honeyed yeast spicing for sour lemon-rotted orange entry, ascending banana bubblegum tartness and ancillary cane-sugared peach tones. Fluctuant white-peppered clove and coriander seasoning pervades resinous floral-dusted hop rusticity. Chamomile tea hints waver. Not as richly flavored or alluringly aromatic as advertised, yet far from superficial.

(DU BOCQ) LACU

Debonair Belgian pale ale ‘brewed with spices’ and ‘based on an ancient recipe’ emulates from Moscufo, Italy’s Biere D’Abbaye Lacu. Exquisite golden-hazed ‘blonde bier’ brings spring-watered lightness to sweet sourdough breading and honeyed citrus effervescence. Tart lemon-dried orange peel fruiting stays soft-toned placating polite grassy-hopped bittering and peppery coriander-clove spicing, remaining lively on the tongue. Fluctuant banana, apple and orange illusions sneak by for cameos.
