Wondrous updated version of Yakima Twilight (circa 2011) better defined as mahogany-hued Cascadian Dark Ale (or trendy Black IPA). Abundant citrus splurge and resonant stone fruiting more pronounced than blackened hop char. Smooth dark-roasted caramel malting and powdery cocoa acridity harmonize well with grapefruit-soured, prune-stewed cherry-berry conflux. Resinous pine nuts crease burnt toast bottom.

THREE HEADS SKUNK BLACK INDIA PALE ALE
Terrific mocha-leaning Cascadian dark ale with black grape intensity and cookie dough thickness discretely enriching lactic full body. Resinous roasted hop char deepens creamy chocolate malting and dry coffee oiling. Mint-y anise slipstream and nutty cola recess firm up backend.
CLOWN SHOES HOPPY FEET BLACK INDIA PALE ALE
Bold adjunct ale brings resinous pine-sapped citric hop bittering and ashen charcoal char to creamy cocoa-molasses base. Chewy peat-smoked black chocolate malting, subsidiary dark-roasted coffee scamper, and scant cherry cordial illusions elevate mocha rampage. Tertiary pink grapefruit and black grape tartness seeps into caliginous mochaccino dusk.
SAMUEL ADAMS LONGSHOT BLACKENED HOPS
Trendy limited edition (circa 2011) Black IPA/ Cascadian Dark Ale-styled medium body retains roasted chocolate depth, ice coffee appeal, and piney citric remnant. Ashen charcoal hop char upends dark carafa malting and tart pineapple-grapefruit ripeness. Subsidiary black currant and blueberry illusions embitter earthen grained backend.
FULL SAIL BUMP IN THE NIGHT CASCADIAN DARK ALE
Wintry ruby-browned dry-bodied Black IPA (circa 2011) lacks distinct flavor profile and emphatic up-front thrust of similarly styled ‘Cascadian’ suds newly marketed across America. Ashy resinous earthiness may be the culprit, overriding piney-hopped grapefruit-peeled juniper bittering, tenuous rye-breaded barley roast, relegated fig-spiced date-prune swoon, and latent cola-walnut wisp. Reluctant dark-malted powdered cocoa murkiness and slick coffee-burnt waver lurk beneath.
MAGIC HAT DEMO I.P.A.
Slick Black India Pale Ale (redefined as Cascadian Dark Ale) may lack sufficient hop bite and malt thrust, but its overall appeal maintains predictable efficiency. Black grape, blackberry, and black cherry (usual Black IPA suspects) reach mildly creamy milk chocolate center. Weedy fennel spicing and terse black currant dicing reach recessive molasses-sapped nut-tinged chicory coffee bittering.
OTTER CREEK ALPINE BLACK I.P.A.
Rangy ‘Cascadian dark ale’ emphasizes barley-roasted hop-charred bittering above pine-sapped citrus zest and flourishing red-fruited ripeness, capturing mocha porter richness more than stylistic India Pale Ale traits. Minor wood-burnt sensation and sooty charcoal acridity crowd creamy cocoa-chalked chocolate milkshake center. Caramel-burnt toffee sweetness serenades distant grapefruit-apricot-nectar conflux as stove-burnt coffee, tobacco chew, and pine tar re-embitter tail end.
BLUE POINT TOXIC SLUDGE INDIA PALE ALE
Busy ‘toxic sludge’ mix of dry-hopped crayon-wafted Black IPA works in stages. Initial coffee bean roast tethers herbal hop-oiled mesquite-grilled charcoal bittering temporarily concealing back-tongued dry fruiting. Creamy chocolate-seeded midst picks up surfacing grapefruit rind, fig, and apple pleasantries to contrast pine-charred earthen wood singe. Not for the faint of heart.
ROGUE MOGUL MADNESS ALE
Bold brown-hazed winter warmer classified as Black India Pale Ale, but closer to English Extra Special Bitter. Blunt cocoa-creamed chocolate spicing and nutted fig-date influx flutter through resinous pine bittering. But gruff alcohol pungency overwhelms tertiary dried cherry, raisin bread, and citric herbal illusions.
21ST AMENDMENT BACK IN BLACK I.P.A.
An ominous aberration away from usual pine-fruited India Pale Ale. Black-canned peat-smoked nut-soured full body relies on porter-stout mocha tendencies instead. “Brewed with rich dark malts,” its dried-fruited fig-spiced date-nut gambit, tart cider spell, and peanut-shelled walnut haste could never be mistaken for typecast West Coast styling. On tap, soft-toned hop-charred coffee-burnt black cherry souring counters wood-seared peat malting.
STONE SUBLIME SELF-RIGHTEOUS ALE
Earthen piney nuttiness, wood chip-burnt hop bitterness and grain-smoked charcoal tarring nearly overwhelm dry-spiced tropical-fruited nature of creamy coal-hued khaki-headed strong ale previously named Stone 11th Anniversary Ale. Grapefruit, orange, peach, and pineapple tang deepens black cherry pureed tartness to sweet sherry offing. Serve to India Pale Ale connoisseurs.
