Ascending alcohol burn deepens ultimate complexity of richly balanced step up from usual moderate-bodied golden ale contenders.

Too tame and pallid to be offensive, unenthusiastic ‘session ale’ will please less finicky ale heads yearning for an inexpressive light-bodied refreshment. Peculiar earthen fungi yeast and cardboard-y vegetal nuance take away from muted orange-oiled sour-candied tartness to cracked wheat spine. Blasé.

Easy-plowing summertime poolside light-body maintains understated sweet-watered fizz and mild marzipan-caramel creaminess lost to phenolic astringency. Slick honeyed malt pungency becomes diacetyl, deadening gentle hop-fizzed lemon bitterness. Sunny beach fodder for softer, indiscriminate tastes.

Heady Belgian-styled golden-hazed medium body (brewed for Florida’s Gordash Beer Company in South Carolina) brings vanilla malt creaminess to fungi-soured Belgian yeast endurance. At midst, peppery Saaz hop bitterness and musty barnyard funk counter durable cotton-candied butterscotch rummage, wavered apple-apricot-pear fruiting and clove-coriander-spiced banana bubblegum whim. Delightful maraschino cherry ripeness, zippy cinnamon-gingerbread dalliance, and supple Cognac finish prove affirmative. Busy mix never falters. On tap at Plantation’s Hurricane Grill & Wings, sweeter honey-fruited thrust receives herbal twinge.

Turbid copper busybody allows rapturous butterscotch creaminess to gain bruised orange density and overripe peach-grapefruit-apricot tang, maintaining sturdy medicinal thrust without sacrificing floral-spiced citric tonic. Peppery hops counter sugar malt saturation and corn whiskey sweetness mid-palate, amplifying complexity.

Soapy light-bodied Euro-styled ale-aged pilsner varied in quality from one bottle to next. Dry lemongrass souring and slight curacao orange waver mollify pumpernickel backend as fizzy hops blindside honeyed oats and milled barley. Nasty vegetal cabbage-like skunking ruined one sample.

Dry harvest wheat informs sourdough mouthfeel and unobtrusive barleymalts, combining for subtle even flow. Elegantly smooth dry-roasted oats soften nutty backdrop. Great for softer palates, but docile nature will put off experienced drinkers.

Frosty white-headed froth and strong alcohol whiff introduce otherwise becalmed moderate-bodied ale. Various spicy adjuncts prickle lemon-soured grapefruit tongue. Yellow-fruited hop bitterness gains prominence over slim pale malt backbone. Love that strong alcoholic finish, too.

Smoky pale malting and dank hop bitterness provide rustic flow to slim fruited finish. Berry notes make a cameo, but flaccid golden ale is just too soft and under-whelming for serious consideration.

Lemony grapefruit souring counters candy malt sweetness of feathery pale-bodied mediocrity.

Rhapsodic medium-bodied golden delight picks up caramel essence and doughy sinew by tobacco-tinged barley-oats finish, curiously blending red ale-like malted grain sweetness with IPA hop spicing along the way.  Brewed under Williamsville Brewing handle ‘Golden Lager’ thereafter.
