Sourdough aroma influences promising wheat aspect, as hints of orange peel, banana, and lemon tickle tongue, then decorate well-defined clove-influenced yellow-fruited finish. Cloudy medium-bodied Californian competes favorably with Germany’s finest weizens. Brewery defunct: 2003.

LEINENKUGEL’S BERRY WEISS
PYRAMID HEFEWEIZEN ALE
Cloudy yellow-toned ‘wheat-brewed ale with yeast’ works grassy spice-hopped tingle, lemony plantain-clove slither and harvested grain rawness into pale malt residue for delightful initial impression. Plaintive floral wheat waft grafts citric-fizzed finish. Only its green banana reminder provides usual hefeweizen styling. Closer to an American wheat ale.
SHINER HEFEWEIZEN ALE
WEEPING RADISH WEIZEN
Responsive floral wheat fragrance and sourdough mouthfeel usurped by well-mannered hops then fortified by sugary-malted cotton candy illusions mid-palate. Unlike many American weizens lacking full-bodied nature, resilient yeast elegance and multi-dimensional finish keep this near-classic German-styled brew robust.

SHINER HONEY WHEAT HEFEWEIZEN ALE
WEIHENSTEPHANER HEFEWEISS
Admirable fleshy-headed golden-hued moderate-bodied half-wheat with sinewy yeast sediment propelled by creamy banana butterscotch charm and lacy eclair froth. Lemony floral hop tingle and expansive clove-coriander spicing delicately caress candi-sugared honeyed wheat base. An undeniable world-class beer.
GREAT DIVIDE WHITEWATER WHEAT ALE
Crisp pale-clouded (and ultimately unassuming) moderate body neither as overtly sweet nor as heavily carbonated as more compelling banana-clove-influenced wheat rivals. Sour yeast consumes lemony grapefruit-orange wisp to doughy white-breaded spine. Slight metallic tinniness hampers washed-out finish.
