Seemingly updated, but definitely relabeled Helles bock with better flavor profile not half-bad as midrange post-winter warmer. Tart orange souring and bittersweet raisin-fig harshness cushion caramelized butterscotch-toffee sweetness to baguette-like bottom of opaque gold moderation.

SIERRA NEVADA 30TH ANNIVERSARY IMPERIAL HELLES BOCK
Delightful fruit cocktail theme underscored by sharp floral-spiced grassy-hopped orange peel bittering and rich caramel malt creaminess. Wheat-honeyed red cherry, purple grape, pineapple, tangerine, peach, mango, and melon illusions brighten maple-sapped pine-combed spruce-tipped viscosity to lusty 8.3% alcohol reminder. A rejuvenating IPA-like specialty brewed in conjunction with lauded beer experts Charlie Papazian and Fred Eckhardt.

HARPOON HELLES BLOND BOCK
Casual moderate-bodied amber-hued German-styled blond lacks overall distinction and fruity pizzazz. Buttery pale-malted honey-roasted barley graining enjoins basic floral-hopped orange-peach-cherry tang and pastry-like sugar cookie sweetness. Vanilla, iced tea, and wet paper illusions receive tertiary whiskey-zapped ransom.
ALLGAUER BLUES LAGER
PAULANER MUNICH PREMIUM LAGER
A classic German lager! Doughy French-breaded baguette frontage secured by musty hop spicing to honeyed wheat spine of soft-watered moderate-bodied helles lager. Crisp, clean moderation finishes with salted cracker neutrality. Thin mocha undercoating fades to oblivion. Not complex by any stretch, but its underlying barley-rice easement, buttered popcorn midst and gently bitter dried fruit banter will suit softer tastes.

AYINGER JAHRHUNDERT-BIER
Creamy pale-toned ‘Munich Helles’ brings subtle peppery hop-spiced bittering to vague malt-candied cocoa powdering informing lemony banana bread midst. But lazy yellow-fruiting and polite peach marmalade frailty are never sweet, raspy, bitter, or brazen enough to compare with Ayinger’s better efforts.
PETE’S WICKED MUNICH STYLE HELLES LAGER
Plain German knockoff fails to deliver. Foamy hop bitterness, thin malt sweetness, and perky berry moderation barely enliven flaccid grain finish, as delicate apricot tones and musty tangerine scent get lost in the shuffle. Only amateur pilsner fans ready to take off their Bud/ Miller training wheels need apply.
