OSKAR BLUES THE G’RAUCH IMPERIAL INDIA PALE ALE

On tap at Shepherd & Knucklehead – Haledon, well-done rauchbier/ IPA hybrid (in collaboration with local Colorado brewers, Ska) brings smoky campfire, beechwood and mesquite tones to crisply clean citrus fruiting. Barley-smoked cured meat pleasantry keeps rauchbier likeness lingering longer and stronger than casual orange, grapefruit, peach and apricot illusions.

ROGUE NEW CRUSTACEAN BARLEYWINEISH IMPERIAL INDIA PALE ALE SORTA

On tap at Shepherd & Knucklehead – Hoboken, boozy ‘cult fave’ loads intense 10.8% ABV solvency inside sharp barleywine-styled hop bomb. Lively grapefruit-orange-peach-pineapple-cherry tang immediately receives ethanol vodka-soaked respite. Resinous pine needling and aspirin-like medicinal astringency deepen gnarly bitter aspect. Not for faint-hearted soft palates.

THIMBLE ISLAND GHOST ISLAND DOUBLE IPA

On tap at Arooga’s, rousing orange-peeled lemon seed bittering and brisk yellow grapefruit tang provide hard-candied sweet ‘n sour profile. Tertiary tangerine, clementine and pineapple illusions allow fruitiness to expand above moderate pale malt base. Aggressive Citra hop briskness anchors 8% ABV DIPA, deepening its juicy citrus frontage and resinous pine hind. In the bottle, richer doughy yeast sinew arouses bitter yellow fruiting plus dark cherry, bruised orange and sweet fig illusions.

BALLAST POINT WATERMELON DORADO DOUBLE IPA

Bolder and more assertive than typical watermelon-flavored brews, though its featured fruit loses luster against citric-spiced IPA bittering and minor fusel alcohol burn (10% ABV). Acrid watermelon rind astringency contrasts candied watermelon sugaring above rich barley-roasted cookie dough malting. Tart orange-peeled yellow grapefruit, pineapple and mango illusions waver.
