CONNECTICUT VALLEY ALL ABOARD NEW ENGLAND STYLE IPA

Worthy amber-clouded NEIPA sometimes recalls the epic splendor of iconic Ipswich IPA with its honey-glazed tropical fruiting spread across sugar-glassed cookie dough richness and resinous pine hops. Pastry-like pale malting provides sweet base for orange marmalade, pineapple, peach and passionfruit tang as well as mild pear, cantaloupe, pecan and mango snips.

THIN MAN TRIAL BY WOMBAT

On tap at Growler & Gill, well-balanced New England-styled IPA (with cloudy yellow-hazed body) coalesces salted lactose souring, tart gooseberry/ white grape tannins and floral citrus juicing. Tangy peach, pineapple, orange, mango and grapefruit resilience penetrates moderately acidic lactose milking over delicate oats-flaked spine in winning way. In the can, easygoing lactose-soured yellow grapefruit zip and delicate orange pith bittering gain subtle pine lacquering over mildly spiced oated malts as salted herbage grazes grassy citrus-bound Galaxy hop astringency.

BELL’S SONG OF MYSELF GERMAN-INSPIRED IPA

Frustratingly unspecific Euro-bent IPA lacks true stylistic allure as German hops and malts never coalesce into anything uniquely exciting. Instead, sharp grapefruit-orange-pineapple tang and wispy banana daiquiri boozing lost in a sea of subdued floral, herbal and vegetal notions. Musky turnip dankness and delicate lemongrass riffs reach lingered grassy hop astringency.
