AGAINST THE GRAIN 35K

Fantastic milk stout powered by dark-roasted black chocolate creaminess and cookie dough yeast retains silken flow. Bittersweet cocoa, sweet brown chocolate, milk-sugared coffee, burnt caramel, espresso, marshmallow, molasses, vanilla and almond undertones enrich massive mocha mantra. Wispy blackberry, black cherry and blueberry undercurrents add further complexity to capacious chocolate-cocoa finish. On tap at Poor Henry’s, smoked chocolate entry gets embittered by black patent malting and dark-roasted hop char, picking up subtle dried fruiting.

WESTBROOK UDDERLY MILK STOUT

On tap at Ambulance, thin lactic milk stout maintains soft water base as dark-roasted mocha malts and flaked oats sugaring take center stage. Black chocolate, chalky cocoa, burnt caramel, fudge, toffee and coffee illusions never prove to be as sweet as advertised since ashen hop astringency brings overstated mid-range bittering. Subtle vanilla, burgundy and burnt nut snips stay below the surface.

(DE PROEF) TO OL BY UDDER MEANS MILK STOUT (AGED IN MUSCATEL)

On tap at Julian’s Restaurant, fabulous milk stout, aged to perfection in muscatel barrels, seamlessly blends chocolate with red wine. Creamy molasses-sapped black chocolate overture enriches sweet dessert-wined muscat grape segue. Plum-sugared black grape, green raisin, blueberry and sherry undertones reinforced by soy-milked hop char. Subtle mocha illusions of chocolate cake, cocoa and vanilla waver beneath.

CARTON SOMETHING LIKE SANDY

Distinctive cola-hued sour milk stout hybridized by incipient bone-dry brettanomyces-like wild yeast lactose. Lemon rind-embittered espresso frontage and musty ground coffee veneer reach tart black cherry-soured midst, picking up acrid charcoal reminder. Vinous red and purple grape esters cover earthen bottom to tempting mocha-soured dried fruited finish.
