SHORT’S KIND ALE

Mellow autumn harvested ‘wet-hop’ pale ale nestles brisk citric fruiting beside wood-grained earthiness, resinous hemp-oiled acridity and fresh-cut grass waft to lacquered pine finish. Vodka-like alcohol burn flourishes beneath mandarin orange, tangerine and grapefruit zest. Marijuana smokers will enjoy it alongside kind bud.

(DE PROEF) OMNIPOLLO MAZARIN

Elegant American-styled pale ale (with melting white candle on label) gypsy brewed by Stockholm, Sweden’s Omnipollo for Belgium’s De Proef. Bright fruited hop spicing picks up soft pine-needled grapefruit bittering to sourdough yeast bottom. Rose-watered mandarin orange, lemon zest, pineapple, nectar, peach, red apple and red grape illusions mesh well. Scrumptious.

MOA PALE ALE

Peculiarities abound for this American-styled pale ale from New Zealand. Unexpected herbaceous mineral graining takes the lead, bringing rye, alfalfa, barnyard and straw wheat earthiness to dry hop-oiled fruiting. Indigenous Nelson Sauvin hops bring white-wined sour grape, gooseberry and kiwi illusions to musty lemon-seeded bittering. Soft orange peel, passion fruit and peach undertones add depth to honeyed green tea finish.

(WILD ONION) PADDY PALE ALE

Though its sharp hop bittering emboldens the briskly carbolic front end, scaring away less seasoned pale ale imbibers, gnarly vodka-like alcohol burn, wafting compost flutter and rusty metallic sheen overwhelm expectant orange-grapefruit-pineapple-quince fruiting of canned medium body. Backsided sourdough breading feels right but vegetal tinge disrupts murky flavor profile.

SPIDER BITE FIRST BITE PALE ALE

Bold and bitter enough to be considered a full blown IPA. Fine copper-toned medium-full body will please hearty hopheads, serving as a delightful crossover for daring pale ale imbibers. Juniper hop bite, oaken bark parch and charcoal tarring emblazen lemony grapefruit rind bittering above pithy sugared malt counteraction. Herbal yeast residue at sinewy bottom deepens its complexities.

SUSQUEHANNA 6TH GENERATION STOCK ALE

On tap at Poconos’ Log Cabin Bar, stylistically robust and well balanced pale ale lavishes sharp perfumed hops onto viscous lacquered fruiting. Spicy lemon-peeled orange, peach, grapefruit and quince tones casually decorate doughy biscuit-like backdrop. A fine crossover to stronger IPA styling. Less efficient bottled version brings sheepish crystal-malted red, orange and yellow fruiting to spritzy dry-hopped spicing. Mild metallic astringency raids faded citric-spiced finish.

(DIAMOND KNOT) WHIP ALE

Pour slowly aggressive tan-headed pale ale or bubbly suds will overflow. Herbal mineral graining and peppery hop bittering contrast citric effervescence. Basil, rosemary, parsley, celantro, lemongrass and saffron season dried apricot, pink grapefruit and tangelo illusions above tea-like backdrop. Caramelized Vienna malting caresses soft doughy underbelly.
